In an earlier posting, I mentioned how much I was gaining from Small Group Ministry--I said it had helped foster genuine growth in some of the people in small groups, including myself.
I now see how important personal growth is to the overall growth of the local church. Without personal growth, all other growth is next to impossible. Who wants to join a local church where the 'regulars' are spiritually stunted? On the other hand, a church full of people who are spiritually alive and growing is tremendously attractive. My wife and I recently vistited such a church--and she said she can hardly wait to return! Why? Because it was infectious.
C. Peter Wagner, one of the leading experts on church growth, teaches that personal spiritual growth precedes all other growth. And Small Group Ministries, such as Alpha and Neil Anderson's Beta, are perfect places for that personal growth to begin.
Has anyone else had experiences with Small Group Ministry that backs this up (or shoots it down)? |
